Ngalle Jojo, a key figure in Cameroonian Makossa, has released “Elo-Lodie/Caressed’Amour,” his first newly recorded work in over 30 years. Born in Douala, he rose to fame in the late 1970s with a collection of songs that would later become classics. He subsequently moved to France, where, like Al Green and Solomon Burke, he devoted himself to his faith. Now, as he is being rediscovered by collectors and new listeners alike, he makes a comeback while retaining his unique charm. With vibrant rhythms, layered synthesizers, rich melodies, and his signature catchphrase “CHAUD (Hot)” exploding throughout, this is an essential listen.
