And unforgettable—just like a true friend.” —Brian Eno This release includes “And Yet…,” previously available only on CD and digitally, along with two tracks from the limited-edition ‘Umbrella EP.’ It is released on limited-edition translucent vinyl and CD, featuring artwork designed by Studio Torsten Posselt based on original drawings by Emily Young, a renowned British sculptor and partner of Simon Jeffes. PenguinCafe was formed in 2009 by Arthur Jeffes. The band began when talented musicians from diverse backgrounds were brought together to perform the music of the internationally acclaimed Penguin Cafe Orchestra, left behind by Arthur Jeffes’ father, Simon Jeffes, who passed away suddenly in 1997. Shortly after forming, they released *A Matter of Life*, followed by *The Red Book* in 2014, which was highly acclaimed by both critics and fans. “The title ‘The Red Book’ is derived from Carl Jung’s book of the same name. This book deals specifically with how the unconscious infiltrates and influences our daily lives. I felt it aligned very well with what we were aiming for on our second album—namely, exploring a musical world where familiarity and strangeness coexist. Another meaning is that the final master recording—the disc that serves as the source for all copies—is called a ‘Red Book Master.’ In other words, at some point, there will be a disc labeled ‘TheRedBook-RedBookMaster.’ The album’s tracks span a spectrum ranging from gentle, rational Apollonian elements to more impulsive, Dionysian elements. For us, the former represents the “spacy” aspect—songs like “1420” and “Aurora”—while the latter represents the “fictional folk” aspect—songs like “Odeon,” “RadioBemba,” and “BlackHibiscus.” The songs situated between these two extremes, particularly “SilentSun,” can be seen as an attempt to fuse these two elements.”
