Avishai Cohen's first vocal album, released only in Israel in 2008, reimagines his roots in Israeli trad through the filter of contemporary jazz. Avishai Cohen's first vocal album, originally released on subs at the end of 2021, is now available on CD and LP. After recording "Gently Disturbed," one of Cohen's best-known albums and an icon of post-2000s jazz, Cohen produced this album, which features Hebrew songs tied to the traditions and history of his native Israel throughout, and in which he himself sings vocals. In addition to Maestro and Juliana, the album features percussionist Itamar Doari from Israel, flutist Ilan Salem, female singer Karen Malka, and musicians from Sweden, where the recording was made. The entire piece can be heard as trad interpreted in a contemporary jazz style.This is an extremely important work in Cohen's career, which led him to confront the roots of Israeli traditional music head-on and to take it to the next level. This is a work that should be delivered not only to Israeli jazz fans and world music fans, but also to a wider range of listeners.
