Description:
The Quartet for the End of the World, an ideal masterpiece of the greatest chamber work of the 20th century, was composed while Messiaen was a prisoner of war in Germany during World War II in the Görlitz prison camp. The work was written under difficult circumstances, and it had to be performed with the limited resources available in the camp, but Messiaen's innovative attempts can be seen everywhere. One of them is rhythm. The rhythms, which are not only in altered time signatures but also expanded and contracted, open up new musical possibilities and elevate this work to the status of one of the most important chamber works of the 20th century. The mere fact that Moragès performs this great work with the incredibly skilled members of the Trio Vandalaar is intriguing in itself, but the performance is a masterpiece that does not disappoint. In particular, Vincent Cocq's hard, diamond-like tone on the piano is perfect for Messiaen's work.Moragues' virtuosity and the Trio Vandaller's single-string ensemble create an ideal masterful performance of the greatest chamber works of the 20th century.
