Brendel Spielt Mozart - Die Klavierkonzerte Nr. 5-27

Description:

Compilation of Mozart Concerto recordings made by a master pianist over 14 years with his ideal collaborator 10 CD box set The complete Mozart piano concertos (Nos. 5-27) by Alfred Brendel, one of the greatest musicians of the 20th and 21st centuries, and the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields (ASMF), conducted by Sir Neville Marriner, are now available from Decca. The 10-CD boxed set contains recordings made between 1971 and 1984. It is clear from the performances that Brendel has a deep understanding of the composers and their works, and that he devotes all his artistic attention to each concerto. Marriner and the ASMF are ideal collaborators, and this distinguished chamber orchestra captivates the audience with its clear, refined sound. This is a joyful collection of recordings that allows the listener to experience the superb interplay between pianist and conductor in each of the concertos. Alfred Brendel is an Austrian pianist from Moravia. He is known for his outstanding performances of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Schumann, and Liszt, but he was also an accomplished writer and poet. His musical talents were greatly influenced by his non-musical interests, and writing was a constant source of inspiration and expression for Brendel. He also cites "laughter" as one of his favorite things to do, and this is expressed in his rare ability to highlight unexpected elements of humor, especially in his performances of Haydn and his favorite Beethoven. Brendel's articulation and use of the pedal deserve the highest praise. His playing has depth, confidence, and unparalleled precision."--"Gramophone" magazine Universal Music/IMS
