In his second Sony Classical release of 2019, which began with his first appearance conducting the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert to rave reviews for his superb music-making, he will celebrate his 60th birthday on April 1 with the release of Schumann: The Complete Symphonies with the Handelwehr! Moreover, this is a live recording of the complete cycle performed on two consecutive nights at Tokyo Suntory Hall, the final stop on an Asian tour that took place in Beijing, Guangzhou, and Macau during October and November 2018 (applause after the performance was cut). The symphonies were performed in numbered order, and you can enjoy in excellent sound quality the bold and individualistic interpretation of Schumann, which has been described as "a performance of boldness, gale force, and intensity," and "an image of Schumann that is full of strength and robust energy, like that of a Jin-Oh.It is also important to note that veteran recording producer Arend Plohmann, who has worked for DG for many years, came from Germany for this recording and is responsible for the production. Schumann's four symphonies are among Thielemann's most important symphonic repertoire, and this is his first re-recording in nearly 17 years, having recorded the complete works with the prestigious Philharmonia Orchestra in England from 1996 to 2001, early in his recording career. In an interview with Classica Japan during his October 2018 visit, Thielemann said that "Schumann's symphonies always demand extreme emotional expression," that "it is important to have strong lyricism and convincing big changes in tune," and that "they are rich in incredibly strong spiritual contrasts, yet they are all in one He also states that the work is "emotionally rich and sometimes so out of the ordinary that it is difficult to make sense of it.
