Description:
A must-have for quartet fans! The world's first complete collection of RCA recordings that vividly stamped the second period of the Juilliard String Quartet's fulfillment, in an 11-CD box set.Following the release of the 11-CD Epic recordings compilation box (1956, recorded 1962-1966, 8898547013-2) in February 2018, the 1957 The box set is the long-awaited "Complete RCA Recordings," a complete set of 11 albums recorded during the transition to stereo between 1957 and 1960 for RCA, one of the two major American record labels along with Columbia. The four LPs have been remastered from the original analog masters at 24bit/192kHz for the first time ever on CD, and the quartet was founded in 1946 by professors of the Juilliard School of Music at the suggestion of William Schuman, a composer who was the principal of the Juilliard School in New York. From 1950, the quartet recorded the complete string quartets of Bartók and Schoenberg for Columbia Records, taking advantage of the long playing time of the LP, which had just been put to practical use, and their brilliant performances attracted great attention from record fans and chamber music fans. These recordings attracted a great deal of attention from record fans and chamber music fans, and showed a new direction for the post-World War II string quartet art form.Beginning with recordings of the classical repertoire of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven in 1957, they moved to RCA, Columbia's rival, and made extremely important recordings during the four years of the transition to stereo through 1960. Six recordings of Beethoven, the foundation of their classical repertoire, were made, as well as Schubert's "Death and the Maiden," which made a vivid impression with Herschel Levitt's illustration, the first recordings of Debussy and Ravel, and Berg's "The 20th Century Music is Juilliard," which continued the line of "20th century music is Juilliard. The selection of the orchestra's repertoire is as if it were the essence of the diversity of the repertoire they would later build up, including the Lyric Suites, Webern, and W. Schumann and Elliott Carter. The members, besides founding members Robert Mann (1st violin) and Raphael Hillier (viola), were also in the second period, when the 2nd violin moved from Robert Koff to Isidore Cohen and cello replaced Klaus Adam, and the group went beyond its original framework of specialists in vivid contemporary music. The second period of the quartet, when Isidore Cohen replaced Robert Koff on cello and Klaus Adam on cello, marked the first peak of the quartet's career as a string quartet. The raw sound of the quartet, as if the four musicians were playing with sparks flying right in front of your eyes, is a sound that could only come from RCA, which had a better reputation than Columbia at the time. The stereo recordings of "Death and the Maiden" from 1959 onward were released under the "Living Stereo" logo, and coincided with their first visit to Japan in 1961 for the World Music Festival, a series of masterpieces that firmly established their image among Japanese music fans. Ravel and Debussy, Berg and Webern were previously released on CD by BMG in Japan and on four CDs by Testament, but this is the first time that the entire collection has been released on CD in its entirety. Each disc is housed in a paper jacket using the original LP jacket design of the first U.S. release, and is presented in a cardboard clamshell box. Sony Music
