Bach's Works Russian pianist and harpsichordist Alexei Lyubimov is an advocate of contemporary music from John Cage to Valentin Silvestrov, and a performer of Baroque music who is passionate about ancient instruments He is a rare artist with two directions. In this performance of music by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, he makes the most creative use of the tangent piano's sound to respond to the inventiveness of the composer's fantasies, sonatas, and rondos. The tangent piano is an ancient instrument, popular for a while in the early 18th century, in which the strings are struck with pieces of wood called "tangents" to produce sound. Universal Music/IMS
