Zykan (1935-2006), a musician from Vienna, Austria, who was a member of the Vienna Boys' Choir and a pianist known for completing Schoenberg's complete piano works in the 1960s, is a world premiere by another leading Austrian master composer and sadly, the world premiere performance by Heinrich Schiff, who passed away suddenly in 2016! Zykan studied composition with Carl Schischke and was a composer and pianist. The two cello concertos premiered by Heinrich Schiff are among the most important works of Zykan's career, which included orchestral, concerto, opera, and instrumental music. Of particular note in this collection of Zykan's cello concertos is the fact that the soloist is Heinrich Schiff.Zykan's two cello concertos are an enthusiastic tribute to the virtuosity of Heinrich Schiff, and at the same time an important record that shows the musical side of this master Austrian cellist and his enthusiasm for contemporary music! Co-performers include Mehta & the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, Segerstam & the ORF Vienna Radio Symphony Orchestra! This is a great legacy of Zykan and Heinrich Schiff. Tokyo M-Plus
