Beartooth—which has evolved from a solo project where Caleb Shomo played all the instruments into a full-fledged band—returns with their long-awaited sixth album, their first in three years! For years, Beartooth has channeled pain into anthems and continued to shout out to the world. This album depicts what lies “beyond” that struggle. What lies there is neither perfection nor tranquility. It is the possibility that “we might be free.” The two previously released tracks mark the beginning of that journey. The title track, “Pure Ecstasy,” symbolizes the direction of the entire album, demonstrating from the very first note a resolve to face both the light and darkness of life head-on. Meanwhile, regarding “Free,” Shomo says, “I probably won’t ever write another song that portrays my soul with such honesty.” Their previous album, *The Surface*, released in 2023, debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Albums and Hard Music Albums charts and produced two No. 1 rock radio hits: “Might Love Myself” and “I Was Alive.” That success propelled Beartooth to new heights, both creatively and commercially. *Pure Ecstasy* builds on that momentum while taking even bolder musical risks. On this album, Shomo confronts both his darkest and brightest sides in real time. Honesty has always been at the core of Beartooth. Starting in 2013 in the basement of Shomo’s home in Ohio, the band has transformed anxiety, depression, anger, and self-destructive impulses into cathartic anthems of modern rock, resonating with millions of listeners worldwide. With the gold-certified “Hated” and the platinum-certified “InBetween” leading the way, the band has amassed over 1.3 billion cumulative streams, successfully completed sold-out tours around the world, and in recent years has supported Bad Omens on their arena tours. Their journey has coincided with the very trend of contemporary heavy music breaking into the mainstream. However, *PureEcstasy* stands apart from Beartooth’s previous work. On this album—which is larger in scale and features more collaboration than ever before—Shomo delves deeper into self-revelation than he ever has. And this time, he wasn’t alone for the first time. Skyler Accord (Issues, Twenty One Pilots, Bilmuri) participated in the early stages of songwriting. Furthermore, through a collaborative production with Fish (Bring Me the Horizon, Poppy, Architects), Shomo was guided toward a form of self-expression that is more raw and visceral than ever before. This spirit of collaboration carried over into the recording process as well. Bassist Oshie Bichar, guitarists Zach Huston and Will Deely, and drummer Connor Denis all played larger roles than ever before. Furthermore, *Pure Ecstasy* is the first Beartooth album on which Caleb Shomo did not play all the instruments himself. Recorded at NRG Recording Studios, Connor Denis handled the drumming for the entire album.
