Alexander Kritschel of Germany, who studied Russian pianism with Klinev and Alexeev, is a master of Rachmaninoff. In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Rachmaninoff's birth, he has even written his own commentary on Rachmaninoff's music. About the work: My Rachmaninoff Alexander Klitschel A-G#-C#. I trembled from the bottom of my heart. It was at a youth piano competition when an older contestant was warming up by playing Rachmaninoff's Prelude in C-sharp minor. This encounter was the foundation of the deepest bond between me and Rachmaninoff. I still get goosebumps when I recall that moment, which is why I chose this piece to open this very personal album. My Rachmaninoff contains a number of pieces that have accompanied me through important phases of my life. Prelude in C-sharp minor, Op.3-2 "Bells" Composed by Rachmaninoff at the age of 19, the Prelude in C-sharp minor is the best known of his preludes. It is because of the popularity of this piece that Rachmaninoff was later called "Mr. Sharp Minor" in the United States. Prelude in G minor, Op. 23-5The well-known G minor, a march with a tender middle section, is the second of Rachmaninoff's preludes that I have studied and subsequently come to perform frequently.I am still fascinated by it. Prelude in G-sharp minor, Op. 32-12 This is one of the most interesting pieces. While one hand flows in a definite direction, the other hand seems to suggest a different, more contemplative character, thereby questioning the innocent flow. Variations on a Theme by Corelli, Op. 42, is a work I have only begun to work on in recent years. The unique flow of energy in this work has been a great support to me, especially during the pandemic. Rachmaninoff learned of this theme through his friend, the violin virtuoso Fritz Kreisler, to whom he also dedicated the Variations. However, the theme Corelli used in his violin sonata is actually not Corelli's, but a 16th century dance piece called "La Follia. After the presentation of the theme by a five-voice chorale with a medieval flavor, the first variation, in which the syncopated bass and the change in timbre and register can be clearly heard, is shocking and plunges us at once into the 20th century.
