This is a superb piece by a violinist for violinists! The virtuoso Brilinski recorded Ernst and Wieniawski's unaccompanied works! Wieniawski's "Legend" is a multiple recording of two violin versions he arranged himself. Maxim Brilinsky, who also showed his unaccompanied recording of Ysaÿe (HC-20087), releases another remarkable unaccompanied album. This is a collection of superb works composed by Ernst and Wieniawski, two virtuosos! Born in 1985 in Ukraine, Brilinsky studied at the Vienna Conservatory and the Paris Conservatory, and in 2004, he won the second prize at the 2nd Sendai International Music Competition. In 2011, at the age of 26, he joined the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, where he is currently the first violin principal. The works recorded here are all known for their extreme difficulty. Ernst's Six Exercises in Duos for Solo Violin is, as the name suggests, a collection of solo pieces with a lot of heavy notes; each of the six pieces is dedicated to a great violinist, and the sixth piece, Variations on "The Remaining Rose of Summer," is particularly famous. Wieniawski's Legend is a work for solo violin and piano or orchestra, and now Brilinski has attempted a multiple recording of his own arrangement in two violin versions. This arrangement, reminiscent of the composer's Etude Caprice, was arranged for performance with Brilinski's daughter. The violin tone shines through in this arrangement. In Ernst's arrangement of Schubert's "Der Werf", the piano part of the original is reproduced as much as possible on the violin, so almost everything in the piece is written in double tones. The piece is a masterpiece that is full of all kinds of violin virtuosity, including pizzicato with the left hand, which requires a high level of technique, and flageolet playing of notes two octaves higher by holding the strings with the left finger. Brilinsky's performance is very musically rich with free bowing and skillful fingering. It is a difficult piece, but Brilinsky plays it with lyrical expression. HAENSSLER
