Francisco Asenjo Barbieri was a composer born in Madrid and active here. He is known for his zarzuelas, and the song of Paloma in his masterpiece "The Barber of Lavapiés" is still familiar today. Nevertheless, he was little known outside of Spain, and moreover, there were no recordings of his non-salsuela works, so this CD will be a welcome addition. The music is full of Spanish cheerfulness. Sofia Esparza is a soprano born in Pamplona, Navarra, Spain. Rinaldo Zoc is a pianist born in Trieste, Italy. The lyrics and commentary are in Spanish only.
