The brilliant harpsichordist Mitzi Meyerson, an original member of the Trio Sonnerie formed in 1982 and a professor of harpsichord at the Berlin University of the Arts, is back with a new recording of a little-known masterpiece from 18th century England. Mayerson, who has unearthed a series of historically buried keyboard and chamber works by Richard Jones, Gottlieb Muffat, Giovanni Battista Somis, and others, has recorded "Eight Lessons" by the English Baroque, John Jones (1728-1796)! John Jones was an 18th century English organist and chamber musician, and also served as organist at St. Paul's Cathedral, leaving a solid mark on English music history.The "Eight Lessons," published in 1754, is an undiscovered masterpiece of the English Baroque, with dance movements such as Siciliana, Armando, Gavotte, and Menuetto, as well as a hint of Handel's influence. The music of 18th century England and John Jones is brilliant, varied, and lively through the harpsichord made in 2011 by the British master craftsman Michael Johnson, played by Meyerson.
