Welcoming Songs for King Charles II, Volume 3!Celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2019, The Sixteen, the supreme harmony of the choral kingdom of Great Britain, is proud to present to the world the fourth in a new series launched in 2017, "Works for Royal Occasions" by Henry Purcell, a master of the art of the youngest son! Purcell, who held such important positions as permanent composer and conductor of the royal string choir, custodian of royal musical instruments, and organist of the court chapel, rose to prominence and fame with his "Welcome Songs" and "Ode" to be performed at royal functions and ceremonies upon the king's return to the capital. After dissolving the Parliament of England in 1660, Purcell ascended to the throne in 1661 and composed the third volume of his Welcome Songs for King Charles II, which marked the end of the Republic and the beginning of the Restoration of the Monarchy. Program.The far-reaching talents of Purcell, who held important positions at the court but did not limit himself to those positions, and who met the diverse needs of both professional musicians at the court and works for amateur connoisseurs, will be celebrated with the wonderful harmonies of The Sixteen.
