The Sixteen's Polish Baroque Volume 5: The Art of 17th Century Polish Master Mierczewski! The Sixteen and associate conductor Eamon Dugan take us on an exploration of religious choral works from "Baroque Poland". The fifth volume in the series is a collection of church music by Marcin Mielczewski (d.1651), one of the leading composers of the Polish musical world of the time, along with Penkiel, who was active in the Royal Chapel in Warsaw. Mielczewski was a musician in the royal chapel in Warsaw and the court music director of Karol Ferdinand Waza, the brother of King Władysław IV of Poland. Mielczewski, who actively used the concertato style, inherited the traditions of Italian and Venetian music, and at the same time, he is known for adopting Polish folk songs and melodies in his own works, as in the "Missa o Gloriosa Domina" (Mass "Oh, Virgin of Glory"). The first of his works, "O Gloria Domina", was composed in 1937.The full range of Mielczewski's 17th century Polish art, with its strong Italian influence, will be revealed through the baton of Eamon Dugan, considered to be Harry Christophers' successor, and the harmonies of The Sixteen.
