Guy Braunstein, former first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic and current soloist, releases a fascinating Tchaikovsky album! Born in Tel Aviv, Israel in 1971, Braunstein began playing the violin at the age of seven and later studied with Pinkas Zukerman and Glenn Dicterow in New York City. He has performed with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra, and other prestigious orchestras, and has become a world-renowned violinist. In 2000, he became the first concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, a position he held until his retirement in 2013. He has appeared in numerous concerts with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra until his retirement in 2013.In the 2017/18 season, he was artist-in-residence with the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, showcasing his talents as a conductor as well. Despite his long career as a performer, Brownstein has made very few recordings of himself, and this release is highly anticipated by fans and non-fans alike! In the Violin Concerto, Brownstein's eloquent solo shines through, in the melancholy Serenade, he is full of sensitive emotion filled with tear-jerking pathos, and in the Waltz/Scherzo, he plays the lively theme with great energy. This recording also includes Brownstein's arrangement of "Pas de Deux" (from the ballet "Swan Lake"), "Lensky's Aria" and "The Place of Letters" (from the opera "Evgeny Onegin"). This is Tchaikovsky! Brownstein plays the beautiful melodies with great emotion. The BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Kirill Karabits, performs with Brownstein.Karabits has an overwhelmingly strong reputation for his Russian works, and he is also well known for his concerto recordings, and in this performance he delivers an enchanting Tchaikovsky full of song!
