This video product, titled "Homage to the Young Debussy," includes both Blu-ray and DVD in one package. While focusing mainly on rare pieces from Debussy's early years, it is also an interesting attempt to examine how he established his style and developed it into impressionistic music. Debussy, who was a man of keen sensibility, was influenced by many things and developed his own unique aesthetic from these influences. Not surprisingly, the young Debussy also loved the music of Lalo, whose influence can be seen in the "Orchestral Suite No. 1" and especially in the fourth piece included in this album. The cello concerto by Lalo is performed solo by the promising young Edgar Moreau. In addition to Moreau's fresh performance, Lotto's accompaniment is exquisite. The performance showcases elegant Spanish colors. The overture to "Tannhäuser" by Lotto is noteworthy. The LSO also showed a superb ensemble that perfectly matched Lotto's performance.
