Description:
MTT & San Francisco Symphony analyze the exciting world of Alban Berg. In the Violin Concerto, Gil Shaham plays solo! This album by Michael Tilson Thomas ("MTT") and the San Francisco Symphony has been releasing live recordings by the San Francisco Symphony (SFS Media), this time focusing on the works of Alban Berg, analyzing and performing the gorgeous and exciting world of Alban Berg. The first "Violin Concerto" was commissioned by violinist Krasner, but before it was written, the daughter of Alma Mahler, whom Berg himself adored, died at the young age of 19, resulting in music with the subtitle "In Memory of an Angel". The violin solo here is a very beautiful and beautiful piece of music. The solo violinist here is Gil Shaham. In the melody with legato overtones interspersed with pizzicato notes on the left side, it is reproduced as a perfectly gentle duo. Despite the numerous string intersections, no space is created, and the violinist, while using a lot of non-vibrato techniques, can be felt as if he were playing with a baroque bow.By bringing out the clear violin tone against the thick orchestral sound, Shaham's sound was never pushed, and everything was beautiful, from the rapid bow changes in the Allegro, to the buoyant bright tone with rich overtones, to the MTT's balance and attention to even the smallest notes, the conducting brought out the violin in Berg's Violin The concerto's mournful melancholy is brought out with a uniquely heavenly sense of resonance. The "Seven Early Romances," the last sparkle of the romanticism of Mahlerian fin-de-siècle music, is sung by Susanna Phillips, who graduated from Juilliard in 2004 and made her acclaimed debut as Musetta in "Puccini: Boheme" at the Met in 2008. The work makes full use of Berg's unique technique, but she brings out the pure beauty of Berg's rich harmonies and graceful melodies by utilizing her pure tone and high singing technique to bring out the melodious parts of the music. In the "Three Pieces for Orchestra," Mahler's hammer is used as in Mahler's Symphony No. 6, and there is even an anecdote that she took away Mahler's conductor's baton because she admired him so much. MTT has previously recorded Mahler's complete symphonies, but this recording finds a fascinating expression of the composer's works for orchestra, in which Berg sought a new expression, given the turbulent end of the century context in which Berg and Mahler lived and worked with the 12-tone technique.
