Ballet & Dances Classical

Description:

John Neumeier's New "Beethoven Project" Fusion of Narrative Ballet and Symphonic BalletIn honor of the 250th anniversary of Beethoven's birth, John Neumeier, one of the greatest choreographers of our time, has choreographed for the first time using Beethoven's music, "The Beethoven Project" (premiered 2018), will be released on video. The work consists of three parts, based on Beethoven's music and expressing Beethoven's own mental image. The first part, "Beethoven Fragments," describes Beethoven's life and appears in fragments in the dance. Hats off to Alÿs Martinez for his expressiveness as Beethoven. The second part, "Intermezzo," depicts the world of Greek mythology with music from "The Creation of Prometheus," and Edwin Levatsov's supple movements as Apollo are mesmerizing. Finally, the third part, "Eroica," features the entire Symphony No. 3 "Hero" and a symphonic ballet full of brilliance. Japanese dancers also featured prominently in the performance, including Maiyo Arii, who appeared in the first movement of the third part, "Eroica. She left Hamburg in 2019 to move to Houston Ballet as a Dumi soloist, but this time she returns to her old home as a guest soloist. Also in the cast is Enka Sugai, who will be promoted to principal in 2019 for her exceptional leaping ability and expressiveness. Neumeier said of the production's intention: "I wanted to create a piece that would be a real treat to hear Beethoven's music. Neumeier said of his intention for this production, "To transfer the emotions that come to my mind when I hear Beethoven's music into choreography, and to create a 'dance' to his music. To improvise interpretations of Beethoven's music and simply create movements and movement situations, without any detailed pre-planning, storytelling, or "dramaturgical conception. At the same time, to research and study Ludwig van Beethoven - to discover and reflect on the facts of his life as a composer and his private life." On the 250th anniversary of his birth, we will witness a new art form that is fascinated by, inspired by, and perfected by great music. King International
