Thielemann & SKD's anniversary concert of "Alpine Symphony" Thielemann's magnificent panorama of nature! The commemorative concert was held by Thielemann and the Staatskapelle Dresden (SKD) in Dresden, the city associated with R. Strauss, from June 9 to 11, 2014. On the first day, the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra & Chailly appeared, on the second day, the rarely performed opera "The Town on Fire" was performed in concert format, and on the third day, June 11, R. Strauss' birthday, a gala concert was held, making this a very exciting anniversary concert series. This video contains the performance by Thielemann and SKD that appeared on the afternoon of the first day. The concert opened with Rihm's "Solemn Songs," followed by R. Strauss' "Four Last Songs" in an orchestral accompaniment version arranged by Rihm.The soprano is Anja Halteros, who is of German-Greek descent. She is a popular soprano with a strong voice and rich expressiveness. The "Four Last Songs" has already been recorded by Luisi & SKD and Jansons & Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, and both recordings have been highly acclaimed. Finally, the "Alpine Symphony" dedicated to the SKD is a complete program. Thielemann, who has steadily built a career as one of Germany's leading master conductors, recorded the same piece with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 2000. The SKD has produced numerous masterpieces by Kempe, Sinopoli, and more recently Luisi. Here, Thielemann's weighty conducting and SKD's masterful descriptive and persuasive command of each theme make this a performance worthy of a commemorative performance. King International
