Hernani" in Parma, reissued in the Tutto Verdi series ★ The Verdi Festival in Parma is now a specialty of October, but from 2004 to 2006 it took place around April to June. Recorded here is "Ernani" performed in May 2005. It was recorded by Dynamic and released on DVD (and CD), but C-major has licensed it and incorporated it into the Tutto Verdi series. Marco Berti, in the title role, is now a sought-after Verdi tenor worldwide. Born in Como, it is still fresh in our minds that his Radames in Verdi's "Aida" at the New National Theatre in March 2008 was well received. Elvira's Susan Nevis is a New York-born soprano.While he excels in dramatic roles, he can also do coloratura, making him a good choice for the heroine in Verdi's early works. Carlo Guelfi as Don Carlo is a baritone from Rome. He excels in Verdi to Verismo operas, especially in villainous roles. Giacomo Prestia, Silva, is a bass born in Florence in 1960. He is a gem in the Italian bass tradition, which is often pushed aside by the Eastern Europeans. Conductor Antonello Allemandi is a veteran of Italian opera who can be heard with ease. Pieralli's direction makes effective use of the tilted backdrops, while keeping the production as a whole easy to watch. For a relatively well-performed production, "Ernani" is relatively scarce on video, and this is the first time it has been presented on Blu-ray Disc. Japanese subtitles are included.
