Description:
It was in the early 1900s that Schönberg wrote works such as "Night of Purification" and "Gret's Song," which were steeped in the style of the late Romantic period. The "Glee Song" was completed in 1911, but Schoenberg had already broken away from tonality by composing the "String Quartet No. 2" with solo soprano voice in 1908. Georg's poem used here was also used in "The Book of Imaginary Gardens," composed around the same time, and is one of Schoenberg's masterpieces, fully expressing the content of the poem and expressing sensual imagery and restrained passion, while the music is almost atonal. Bodley's "Girl," premiered in 1978, is a collection of 22 songs that depict the anguish of a girl who has conceived an unwanted child in a repressive society, and the girl's shifting emotions are meticulously sung. The 22 songs are performed by Kerrigan, a contemporary Irish singer who specializes in Brecht, and Collins, who excels at accompanying German lieder. Naxos Japan
