Christian Tsaharias, born in Germany in 1950, is a pianist who has been active internationally, winning second prize at the Geneva International Music Competition in 1969, second prize at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 1973, and first prize at the Ravel Competition in Paris in 1975, Since 1976, he has been recording and appearing on TV and radio programs, and since 1985 he has been the host of "France-Musique". Since the 1999/2000 season, he has been active not only as a pianist but also as a conductor, having made his debut in 1992 conducting the Orquesta de la Suisse Romande. He is currently Principal Conductor of the Sinfonica do Porto Casa da Musica in Portugal from 2020, Principal Guest Conductor of the Orquesta de Granada from the 2021/22 season, Associate Conductor of the Orchestre de Auvergne, and Honorary Conductor of the Orquesta National de Enescu Philharmonic Jorge Enescu, among other conducting appointments.Tsaharias has made various recordings for MDG, including Mozart's piano concertos, but the newest addition to his repertoire is Haydn. Haydn composed more than 50 piano sonatas, and this recording features works from his middle period. The audience will enjoy Tsaharias's free, bold, and playful performance. MDG's three-dimensional and natural recording also makes the sound of the 1901 Steinway "Manfred Burki" played by Tsaharias more beautiful and makes us forget about the device in front of us.
