Trio Alba's new album is a brilliant example of coupling, and we are delighted that Schubert's Trio Alba has chosen the magnificent Piano Trio No. 2, which is full of the songfulness and sometimes the darkness of Schubert's heart, for its new recording. Composed at the same time as the Trio, the Notturno, which closes the disc perfectly, flows so naturally that it might have replaced the slow movement missing from the Trio. Trio Alba is a young trio formed in 2008 by German violinist Livia Serin, Chinese pianist Chenchen Cao, and Austrian-Italian cellist Philippe Comproy, who studied together in Graz. They give regular concerts and perform at music festivals around the world. Universal Music/IMS
