Keyboard instruments were considered ideal for budding composers, the harpsichord being able to express the full range of musical textures, while the organ was considered a miniature orchestra because of the many parts it could play and the variety of timbres it could produce. Handel was undoubtedly a virtuoso on both instruments, and his musical education in Halle included studying the works of the German masters of the previous generation. It was also in the field of keyboard music that he first attempted to compose, a rather natural choice for a young composer.Handel's advanced skills in keyboard instrumental playing enabled him to know perfectly how to compose effectively for harpsichord; moreover, these works were "pictures" of his best improvisations and therefore excellent witnesses of his talent. By demonstrating his artistry, he was able to demonstrate his worth and thus his desire for more complex commissions. This album includes a collection of eight suites for solo harpsichord, known as the "Eight Grand Suites," published in London in 1720 and consisting of eight pieces. Compared to Bach's suites, which emphasize consistency, these suites, which emphasize diversity, are heard with the virtuosity of Roberto Lorejan, a renowned Italian keyboard player who has made excellent recordings on numerous labels and is internationally acclaimed. Recorded September 21-24, 2023 in Italy. (Tokyo M-Plus)
