Jean Chakmul's major project "Schubert+. Jean Chakmul, first prize winner of the 10th Hamamatsu International Piano Competition in 2018, is releasing a series of releases in preparation for Schubert's bicentennial in 2028. This series was born out of Chakmul's desire to not only focus on Schubert's major solo piano works, but also to give each work a new appeal by juxtaposing them with works by composers who were influenced by Schubert's music. The previous releases, "Schubert + Schoenberg" (KKC-6701 / BIS SA-2650) and "Schubert + Brahms" (KKC-6803 / BIS SA-2680), have been highly acclaimed. The third release is Ernst Krushenek (Krenek). Born in Vienna and active in Germany and the U.S., Krushenek is a prolific composer with a career spanning more than 70 years.He is known for adopting various styles depending on the period, and his Piano Sonata No. 2, composed in the 1920s, is music with a technique reminiscent of Schubert but with the scent of Paris in the early 20th century rather than 19th century Vienna. Schubert's unfinished Sonata No. 15, known as the "Lerique," is considered Schubert's most important work. The sonata was not published during Schubert's lifetime, but was discovered by Robert Schumann after his death in 1839; in the 20th century, Kruschenek, as well as other famous pianists such as Badura-Skoda and Prudermacher, published complementary versions. Of the Kruschenek version, Chakmul says, "It would be difficult to tell where Kruschenek got his supplementation from if it were not clearly stated in the score. King International.
