Debut disc of the baroque ensemble "Dolci Affetti" formed by Laurin & Paradiso! SACD Hybrid Edition of "Castrapolis", a collection of Neapolitan cantatas and arias, featuring the hot young countertenor Niccolò Balducci. The first album by the Swedish Baroque ensemble Dolci Affetti will be released. Formed by recorder player Dan Laurin and his wife Anna Paradiso, the group was formed to explore the Neapolitan music collection held by the Naples Conservatory Library. They were joined by musicians active on the Swedish Baroque music scene, including Maria Lindahl on violin and Sjöstin Flodin on oboe. This album features Neapolitan cantatas and arias. The French novelist Dominique Fernandez used the word "castrapolis" in his 1974 novel "Porpolino ou les mysteres de Naples" to describe "the capital of the south, where many castrato sopranos have gathered. The title of the album was taken from the word "castrapolis.The first piece on the program was "Non piangete, amati rai (Don't cry)," sung by both recorder and oboe from "Cyrus recognized" by Johann Adolphe Hasse, who visited Naples to study with Alessandro Scarlatti, on a libretto by Metastasio. Don't cry, my dear eyes! Giuseppe Polziele's "Ulisse's Return" was sung by the then 23-year-old castrato singer Domenico Gozzi in his professional debut. It is based on the same story as Monteverdi's opera, Homer's Odyssey, but composed to a different libretto by a different author. Alessandro Scarlatti's "A Pleasant Peace" is a solo cantata for soprano with solo violin, cello, and basso continuo, as well as recorder. (1/2) King International
