Håkan Hardenberger releases a collection of French trumpet concertos on SACD hybrid disc. Swedish trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger releases a collection of French 20th century trumpet concertos! Hardenberger, Gabel, and Frank Villard, who studied Tomasi's work, collaborated to complete this restoration, which includes orchestration of the missing parts that had survived only as piano reductions. Composed and premiered in 1977, "Eleven Songs" by Betsy Jolas (1926-) is the most recent work on this album. The title evokes the "vocal nature of the music" that is fundamental to Joras' style. The work is "sung" by the trumpet, and the chamber orchestra is like a kaleidoscope of changes, evoking jazz, popular, or sentimental music.Pierre Thibaud, the premiere performer and dedicatee of this work, is Hardenberger's teacher, and conductor Fabien Gabel is also a trumpet player, so this performance is performed with extraordinary care!
