Stockholm Syndrome Ensemble

Description:

The Stockholm Syndrome Ensemble, a group featuring Rick Stotin and others, has launched! The group includes Simon Crawford-Phillips, known for his duo with Lawrence Power; Malin Broman, a member of the Nash Ensemble; Johannes Rostamo, principal cellist of the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra; Malin William-Olsson, leader of the Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra; and Rick Stotin, leader of the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra. Marin William-Olsson, principal cellist of the Amsterdam Sinfonietta, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, and Dutch double bassist Rick Storstedt, who has released such masterpieces as "Capriccio di Bravura" and "The Dancing Bass" on Channel Classics. The Stockholm Syndrome Ensemble was formed by a group of top players who boast impressive careers, including double bassist Rick Stotin. The first installment, "A Movable Feast," takes place in Paris in 1907. The story of the friendship that Englishman Vaughan Williams and Spaniard Falla established with Ravel (Vaughan Williams was also a student of Ravel's) is depicted in a piano quintet and an arrangement of the piano sextet. The ensemble takes its name from the psychiatric term "Stockholm Syndrome," and seems to aim (in a peaceful way, of course) for a musical Stockholm Syndrome effect, in which "sympathy for the culprit" is transformed into "sympathy between performer and audience.
