Description:

Following the "Paris Set" (PRCD.90765) of Beethoven's "9th" Mahler version and Haydn's "Paris Set" (PRCD.90765) with chief conductor Christian Järvi and the famous Tonkünstler Orchestra, the second "Tonkünstler Live" by Preiser is Beethoven's "9th" with chief conductor Christian Järvi. This is the second "Toneküstler Live" featuring the Beethoven Ninth, performed at the Musikvereinsaal in Vienna in the fall of 2006. Beethoven's "9th" in Mahler's arrangement "Beethoven's symphonies pose a problem that most conductors cannot simply solve. I see that at last. Beethoven's symphonies definitely need interpretation and revision." In the winter of 1900, Mahler said this to his friend Nathalie Bauer-Lechner.As a conductor and a composer, Mahler was unable to perform Beethoven's "Ninth" in accordance with the performance methods already established at the time. Mahler decided to rework the orchestration of Beethoven's "Ninth," taking into account the tremendous technological developments in orchestral organization as a whole that had occurred between Beethoven's time and his own, and assuming the original acoustic balance of the time of composition. In other words, he augmented the orchestration, specifically doubling the number of brass and various other parts, and increasing the phrasing and articulation, in order to accommodate the technical developments that had improved the brass parts. The first Beethoven symphonies recorded under the "New Critical Mahler Edition" were recently completed by Christian's brother Pervo with the Deutsche Kammer Philharmonie, and the "Ninth" recorded in 2008 was performed in the Bärenreiter edition. In contrast, it is interesting to note that Christian's brother has chosen Mahler's arrangement of the Ninth, even though it is a return to the "original form" of the work. The first Haydn performance showed a good sense of rhythm and a deep approach to modern instruments, so we can expect great things from the "Ninth," such as the submerging beauty of the adagio and the drama of the finale. This is the first recording based on the "New Critical Mahler Edition" by the music publisher Josef Weinberger in cooperation with the Vienna-based Unifersal Edition, authorized by the International Gustav Mahler Society. The recording was made in the Musikvereinsaal, the "Golden Hall" of the Musikvereins, and is the first recording under the "New Critical Mahler Edition" by the music publisher Josef Weinberger. The SACD hybrid version of this album is designed to allow the listener to enjoy the beautiful tone of the hall even more. [Comment courtesy of King International.
