La Serenissima is a period ensemble founded in 1994 by Adrian Chandler, one of the UK's leading baroque violinists, and has won two Gramophone Awards for its world premiere recordings of works by Vivaldi, the "Red-Haired Priest," and other unknown and rediscovered composers of 18th century Venice and its environs ("Serenissima" means "a sunny place," another name for Venice), Serenissima" is another name for Venice). The first volume (SIGCD886), which includes the first half of "Harmony and Creativity" including Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons," received a great deal of attention and was selected as a "Recommended Disc" by Record Geijutsu ONLINE. The second volume, a sequel, couples the second half of "Trial of Harmony and Creativity" (Nos. 7 to 12) with two concertos not included in Op. 8. The entire repertoire has been revised by Adrian Chandler himself from the original texts, and the new appeal is inscribed along with the vivid expression that only La Serenissima can provide.
