Othterre's "Ales et Brunettes". World premiere recording of solo flute music! Jacques-Martin Othaert, the great flutist of the French Baroque era who was also a musician at the court of Louis XIV, published "Airs et Brunettes" in Paris around 1721, a collection of flute arrangements of ale (songs) by Lully, Demaret, Boucet, Lambert and others. The collection ends with 21 brilliantly orchestrated solo flute pieces. Portuguese traverso player Joana Amorim was healed by these small pieces during the 2020-2021 pandemic, which led to the world premiere recording of 21 pieces. One of the flutes made by Ottotere is preserved in the Styria State Museum in Graz, and a replica of the instrument, restored by Giardino Tardino, is used in this recording to showcase Ottotere's complex, sophisticated, free and improvised ornamentation.
