She was also once described by Miles Davis as "the only white woman with soul. But the soul she had was pure emotion, conveyed through her playing of American songs and songs she had written herself, born of her resistance to imitating others in favor of a sound unbound by jazz precedents and cabaret clichés.Friends like Tony Bennett came to her when they needed advice on what to sing next, her playing influenced jazz greats like Bill Evans, her songs inspired artists like Phiist, Kylie Minogue, and Norah Jones, and In the 1960s, Blossom spent much of her time in London, trading songs with mutual fans John Lennon and Georgie Fame, and signed with Fontana Records, where she produced four albums (1966-70). She became a regular on British television and, thanks to the BBC, had a worldwide fan base. This deluxe package offers a comprehensive record of the era, including the albums (and several singles) she recorded during her stay in the British capital, plus 27 previously unreleased tracks from sessions in the late 1960s that were discovered at her parents' home in East Durham, New York, after her death. These recordings were made with Ronnie Scott and include songs that appear nowhere in her canon.In addition to early Blossom originals such as "Feeling Good Being Me" and "Inside A Silent Tear," the album also includes George Harrison's "Something," Rodgers & Hammerstein's "My Favourite Things," Burt Bacharach and Hal David's "What The World Needs Now," Leslie Bricusse and Anthony Newley's "The Joker" and Buffy St. Marie's "Until It's Time For You To Go" are all included, as are stunning interpretations of standards! Remastered by Simon Gibson of Abbey Road from the original analog sources (mastered for the songs included here for the first time).
