The NIFC label’s “Real Chopin” series uses an 1849 Erard and an 1848 Pleyel to recreate the music and sound of Chopin as they were during his lifetime. The long-awaited *Piano Sonatas*, joining the “Real Chopin” series, are performed by renowned British pianist Howard Sherry, making his NIFC debut! Howard Sherry, a pianist and conductor who has made over 120 recordings—primarily for Hyperion—and has been awarded the Order of the British Empire (OBE). For this “Piano Sonata Collection,” he primarily uses an 1849 Erard, though for the second movement (Scherzo) and fourth movement (Finale, Presto) of the “Piano Sonata No. 2,” he switches to an 1848 Pleyel. He has thoroughly explored the optimal pairing of these two legendary instruments— —Hélar and Pleyel—to find the optimal combination for Chopin’s “Sonatas.” One of Britain’s foremost pianists, Chopin’s music, and the Hélar and Pleyel pianos.
