Sven Simon Schluss was one of the most important contributors to 20th century Danish music as a composer and conductor. He studied composition with Paul Schiabek at the Royal Danish Academy of Music and was music critic for the Copenhagen newspaper Politiken from 1942 to 1949. Later, while conducting the Danish Radio Chamber Choir, he composed music for film and broadcast drama, opera, and orchestral and chamber music. He is especially known for his lyrical choral works, such as "Denmark Revisited" and "Denmark is Fragrant," both of which are sung and loved by Danish choirs as essential works in their repertoire. The album is the first of a project to record on five discs all of the approximately 90 a cappella choral works composed by Schulls that are at the highest musical and technical level. Founded in 1985 and currently directed by Jonas Rasmussen, the Aarhus University Choir consists of 20 to 35 members and performs professionally as an amateur choir in the musical environment of Aarhus University and the Aarhus Royal Academy of Music (Jylland School of Music).Conductor Rasmussen (b.1992) studied at the Royal College of Music Stockholm under Fredrik Malmberg and Mats Nilsson, graduating with a B.Mus. He holds an Honors Master's degree from Cambridge University, where he studied with Stephen Leighton and Tim Brown, and completed soloist classes at the Royal Academy of Music in Aarhus with Carsten Saier-Hansen and Seán K.
