Cembalo piece by Karabis with a strong creaking canon Isang Yun's unaccompanied violin piece using the same "Theme of the Great King" Exciting coupling confirms the modernity of Bach's "Musical Offering"! The Musical Offering (1747), composed by Bach on a theme given to Friedrich the Great, is one of a series of counterpoint instrumental works on a single theme from Bach's later years, such as the Goltberg Variations and the Technique of Fugue, consisting of two Ricercare, ten canons and a trio sonata. It is a collection that is unique among Bach's works in that it has a heterogeneous structure and even sounds like enigmatic contemporary music, making a strong impression. This album by NeoBaroque, an ancient music ensemble founded in 2003, features Victor Karabis's "Canon Invention" (1962), a 20th century work that clearly has Bach in mind, and Yun I-Sang's "Theme of the Great King" (1963), a solo violin work based on the same theme of Friedrich the Great. The program is an ambitious project, performing "Musical Tribute" together with "Theme of the Great King" (1976), a solo violin work based on the same theme by Frederick the Great.The performance of these pieces by masters in the field of ancient music will create a very stimulating musical dialogue in which the timeless virtuosity of counterpoint will resonate.
