Alexandre Borie (Diapason, France, 1979) The Polish-Jewish pianist Vlado Perlemuter, who took French citizenship (born 26 May 1904 in Kovno, Lithuania; died 4 September 2002 in Neuilly-sur-Seine, France), is famous for having studied with Ravel himself, but the other pillar of his repertoire was Chopin. Entering the Paris Conservatoire at 13, he was overwhelmed by the charisma and musical imagination of Cortot, celebrated above all as a Chopin player. Under that influence, his natural gifts - a keen feeling for phrasing and polyphony, a rounded sonority - were joined by a rich poetry and a scorching strength, and a wholly personal style was born. Jean-Marc Luisada recalls that when he was 17 and studying with the 85-year-old Marcel Ciampi, the 70-year-old Perlemuter came for lessons of his own because he was about to play the Chopin Études in London - a moment that taught the young Luisada that one goes on learning all one's life. For this reissue, the analogue recordings have been digitised from the original analogue master tapes for the first time since their initial CD release, and newly remastered by Nimbus engineer Mike Clements. The label had never previously remastered these tapes, but readily agreed to our request. Although this is an import edition, the reverse of the obi carries a newly written Japanese commentary of some 400-600 characters (the booklet is not translated into Japanese).
