Cecilia McDowall was born in London in 1951. In her youth she was a teacher and mentored younger students, but in her 40s she decided to become a composer, studying under Joseph Horowitz and others, and her choral works soon attracted attention, including a nomination for the Ivars Composers' Prize. Her style is characterized by smooth melodic lines and exquisite occasional dissonances, which she says are inspired by genres such as literature and architecture. This collection of works for organ, which McDowall herself enjoyed composing, offers a wide variety of works that showcase her skills as a composer, having participated in a project to complete Bach's unfinished pieces.
