Edward Gregson (1945-) is a British composer. He studied composition and piano at the Royal Academy of Music, and his works cover a wide range of genres, from orchestral music to wind music and choral music. Many of his piano pieces are very impressive, and while they are colored with complex rhythms and harmonies, they also use classical forms such as variations and fugues, sometimes with lyrical melodies, and are based on a relatively accessible style. This album contains a wide range of works from his early years to his more recent compositions, allowing the listener to enjoy the evolution of Gregson's style. Album for My Friend," written at an intermediate level of difficulty, was composed to celebrate his 60th birthday. The "Three Exercises" from 2020 is a technical piece. The "Three Exercises" (2020) is a technical piece that includes a quotation from Ravel's melody. Two of his early works are romantic. The experimental "Four Pictures" and "Six Pieces," the "Friday Morning" evoked by Mahler's Adagietto, and the "Sonata" inspired by the Tippett.
