Composer and pianist Luis-Pipo was born in Granada, Spain. After studying with Alicia de Larrocha at the local conservatory, he made his debut as a pianist and is best known for being a late student of Cortot in Paris. As a composer, however, he was attracted to guitar music, and wrote many works for guitar, some of which were dedicated to and performed by Narciso Yepes, making Luis-Pipo a household name. His works are technically demanding, always exciting, and always a challenge for performers, but when played skillfully, they can produce wonderful musical effects. This album contains works from the 1970s to 1997, and each piece is interwoven with the Andalusian landscapes he loved so much. Wolfgang Weikel, the star of the album, was born in Saarbrücken in 1954 and studied guitar in Lübeck. He prefers South American repertoire and strives to popularize unknown works. Naxos Japan
