It was about 25 years ago that Spanish pianist Guillermo Gonzalez began the ambitious project of recording the complete Albéniz: Piano Works. A total of eight albums have been released so far, all of which were recorded by Gonzalez and his students. This ninth collection, the culmination of the series, includes works that show the transition in Albéniz's creative process, as well as works inspired by Spanish folk music, which he wrote. The opening piece, "Spanish Rhapsody," was arranged by Albéniz himself for piano and orchestra in a two-piano version, and the following five pieces are specially arranged for two pianos for this recording. The serene "Lullaby" is a recently discovered small piece. The series concludes with one of Albéniz's masterpieces, "Songs of Spain. Enjoy this vibrant, stimulating, and rhythm-filled work.
