Description:

After World War I, neoclassical music was on the rise, and the genre of the concerto grosso (concerto concerto), which had been neglected until then, was revitalized. Among the best known of these is Poulenc's "Concerto for two pianos," a work with a melody full of esprit reminiscent of Mozart and the powerful, intense rhythms of Stravinsky, which attracted the hearts of listeners of the time. This album contains such concertos for multiple pianos. Frank Martin's "Small Concerto Symphony" reflects the dark tensions of World War II and was originally written for piano, harpsichord, harp, and orchestra, but in this work, the solo part has been arranged for three pianos, and it sounds brilliant. Shostakovich's "Concertino for Two Pianos" was originally a work for two pianos without accompaniment. Here it is performed with string orchestra accompaniment. Aryeh Levanon's "The Land of Four Languages" is a pop-inspired piece in which folk melodies in four languages are quoted in the hope of peace in Israel. Multipiano is the ensemble at the heart of a project initiated in 2011 by the Buchman-Meta Conservatory, a joint institution of Tel Aviv and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra. The arranger has also performed a variety of works for multiple pianos under the leadership of Tomer Lev to great acclaim.
