Rachmaninoff has left his mark on history as a composer and an outstanding pianist. All of his piano pieces are lyrical and highly technical. He also wrote a number of songs, but his piano accompaniment was often considered too elaborate and "more conspicuous than the main singing part. Here we find not only Rachmaninoff himself, but also friends and other composers who have attempted to adapt the songs into stand-alone piano arrangements. The "Suite" placed at the end was written by Rachmaninoff at the age of 17. It was written for orchestra, but its score has been lost, and only a solo piano version exists. The prelude, similar to Prelude Op.3-2, already has a distinctive Rachmaninoff sound. Recorded in 2016 by Julia Severs (piano). (C)RS
