Description:

The entire recording! The complete recording of "Polyphemo," one of the works by Porpora, a member of the Neapolitan school whose operatic compositions captivated all of Europe in the 18th century, when he was gaining popularity in London as an opera composer who could compete with Handel. The magnificent production, staged at the Royal Opera House in Versailles, with costumes by Christian Lacroix, a genius of both mode and opera, and directed by Justin Way, who has wowed the most prestigious opera houses throughout Europe, is now available as a set with DVD. The story of love and strife between the one-eyed giant Polyphemo, who falls in love with the sea nymph Galatea, who is in love with the shepherd Arch, and Calypso, Galatea's friend who is in love with Ulisse, the fierce general who sets out to defeat him, "Polyphemo" was first performed in February 1735 by the Opera Aristole, the business rival of the Royal Opera House, led by Handel. The opera was premiered in February 1735.The music by Porpora, who was at the height of his popularity, has many hidden treasures, but the aria by Galatea, "O great Jupiter," which is used in the movie "Castrato" (1995) to pray for the revival of the arch at the end of the film, has been excerpted only once, but the entire lengthy work has not been presented in this way. However, it is rare for the entire length of the piece to be presented. The new recording of this masterpiece, which is filled with the best of late Baroque opera, features the ideal combination of Fagioli and Rezhneva, along with the busy singer Benos-Ziane, in an ensemble led by Prevnjak, who is well experienced on the ancient music stage.
