Description:
Robert Fürstenthal is a Viennese-born Jewish composer who fled to the United States after the German invasion of Austria in 1938, earning a living as an accountant and keeping his youthful compositions out of the public memory and out of his own mind. However, 35 years after his exile, a dramatic reunion with his first love rekindled his passion for composition. Since then, until his death at the age of 96, he continued to produce numerous songs and chamber music. His music combines the elegance of fin-de-siècle Vienna with the brightness of California, symbolized by his words, "When I compose, my heart goes back to Vienna. In this series, members of the Rosetti Ensemble, led by pianist John Lenehan, play his works with great care.
