Description:

[Rare British repertoire for Tetzlaff. Elgar in the meeting, ades that tells something about him]. According to the interview with Tetzlaff (7 pages in English, 8 pages in German) in the booklet as usual, Tetzlaff first played Elgar six years ago. Since then, he has been completely fascinated by Elgar, and even feels it is his mission to perform and record it. One of the reasons for this is that the piece has not been performed very often in German-speaking countries, which has delayed the realization of its value. Another reason is that the slow tempo of recent performances does not convey the original appeal of the piece. Tetzlaff referred to the performance by Albert Sammons, who recorded the piece for the first time, and to the performance by Heifetz, with whom Sammons was in contact, and concluded that the entire piece was performed in 42.3 minutes, which is much faster than today's performance of around 50 minutes (Tetzlaff's performance time is approximately 43 minutes). Needless to say, it is not the time itself that is important, but Tetzlaff's playing maintains the style that has characterized him in recent years, which is to dig thoroughly into the details and bring out the nuances to the fullest. Yet he plays through this lengthy piece with grace and without stagnating or indulging in the flow. Backed by Strugose and the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, with whom Tetzlaff "woke up" after his first performance of the piece, this recording was a triumph for Tetzlaff. The Adès recording was made in 2005, 95 years after Elgar's work. It has already been recorded by Harderich and Pekka Kuusisto (distribution only) and is one of the most popular contemporary works. The three movements are named "Circle, Road, and Circle," with the solo violin playing as if telling a story, and the orchestra responding with various sounds. The second movement, "Road," which features many solo performances, is said to be the heart of the piece. With some floating sensations reminiscent of weightlessness and others long sentimental phrases with weak notes, Tetzlaff conveys the richness of the composer's palette in sound without regret.
