Arnold Rosner is a composer from New York. He was interested in wind bands and wrote "Eighth Symphony for Wind Band" as well as the seven wind band works included in this album. His music is characterized by a well-balanced sound that incorporates folk material, natural phenomena, and religious elements. Dance of Initiation" was premiered at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1993. It consists of a first movement in an old-fashioned style, a second movement with a prominent alto saxophone solo, and a third movement with irregular rhythms influenced by Brazilian and Yugoslavian folk dance music. Eclipse" expresses the total solar eclipse in music, "Raga! and "From the Deep End," which uses traditional passacaglia forms, followed by "Now Cometh the Redeemer," an arrangement for concert band of the second movement of Rosner's own string sextet "Nun komm' der Heiden Heiland," and a symphonic poem inspired by the land and climate of the north. The symphonic poetic work "Three Northern Sketches" is inspired by the land and climate of the north. The final piece, "Lovely Joan," was written on the theme of an English folk song, modeled after Vaughan Williams' "Greensleeves. Naxos Japan
