Winner of the 1981 Busoni International Piano Competition, she has performed with some of the world's most renowned conductors,This is a Grieg album by Margarita Heyenrieder, who currently teaches at the Munich University of Music and Drama. In the main piano concerto, Hayward is backed by the Northwest German Philharmonic Orchestra, which she conducts, and sings the majestic melody to its fullest. The "Peer Gynt Suite" is performed in Grieg's own four-hand piano arrangement. The orchestra performs with Antti Seelala, winner of the 1997 Beethoven (Vienna) and 2003 Leeds competitions. She is currently a colleague who teaches at the same university as Heyenlieder, and the two performers are extremely in tune with each other. The album also includes "Stirra" by Icelandic composer Hyaurmar Helgi Ragnarsson. This was written for Hayenrieder when she was previously looking for a piece for the left hand, and is a charming piece inspired by Iceland's light green moss-covered volcanic landscapes, glaciers, and vast, tranquil landscapes.
