A collection of orchestral works by Jamaican-born, now UK-based composer Elinor Alberga. She decided to become a pianist at the age of five and also began composing at this time. On her birthday in 2021, she was awarded the Order of the British Empire for her contribution to British music. Her works are characterized by complex harmonies, dynamism, and repeated rhythmic patterns. In recent years, there has been a shift in her style, with a noticeable use of dissonance, but her piano pieces, especially those that incorporate elements of Jamaican folk music and jazz, are highly acclaimed. This album contains three works: "Tower," composed in memory of Alberga's close friend, violinist David Angel; "Strata," her first symphony, inspired by the structure of the earth; and "Mythology," which depicts characters from mythology.Performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Thomas Kemp.
